The Azerbaijani Migration Code will take effect from August 1, 2013, head of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and State Building Ali Huseynli said at a special session of the Azerbaijani Parliament on Tuesday.
"Previously it was assumed that the Code would come into effect on June 1," he said. "There were proposals to postpone that date to September 1. However, as all documents necessary for the Code to start have been prepared, it will come into effect from August 1."
Today at a parliamentary meeting a bill was passed approving the Migration Code, its start date and related legal regulations.
The Code was adopted by the Parliament in June 2013.
The Code determined the norms related with public policy in the migration sphere regulating migration processes and relations that arise in this area, as well as norms on the legal situation in Azerbaijan, with foreigners and those without citizenship.
Moreover, the document includes such issues as the study of the Azerbaijani language by foreigners permanently residing in Azerbaijan, providing foreigners who invested large funds in the country's economy with the right to residence, the denial of providing compatriots living abroad with the right to citizenship and registration of foreigners who arrive in Azerbaijan for three days, as well as the simplification of their registration.
