Criminal case launched in Azerbaijan for law violation on cargo ship

A criminal case was launched in regards to an illegal act on a cargo ship, belonging to the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company, the press service of Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office told Trend on Wednesday.

Materials about infringements of the law on the cargo ship 'Islam Safarli', belonging to the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company, were received by the Prosecutor General's Office and investigated in the Anti-Corruption Department under General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan.

The message said that the captain of the 'Islam Safarli' cargo ship, Hashim Hasanov, assistant captain Sayyad Ibadullayev and other team members made a verbal agreement on April 7, 2013 with the captain of the 'Kuban' ship, flying the flag of Russia.

Under the agreement, the ship 'Kuban' ship was loaded with 40 tons of crude oil and 18 tons of fuel oil in return for $3,800.

Also it was revealed that the six tons of diesel was sold to the ship's crew for $1,800 at port.

A criminal case has been launched.

Hasanov and Ibadullayev were involved in the criminal case as the accused on the articles 179.3.2 (misappropriation or embezzlement), 206.3.2 (smuggling) and article 206.3.3 of the Criminal Code and arrest was defined as a measure of restraint against them.

An investigation on this criminal case is being carried out at the moment.
