Official: Azerbaijan’s president instructs to punish those guilty of Baku high rise fire

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev instructed the state structures to investigate the causes of the fire, which erupted in a high rise on May 19 in Baku, and punish those guilty, the president's aide for public and political affairs, Ali Hasanov, said May 19, AzerTag reported.

"The fire that occurred in the Binagadi district of Baku has caused serious concern of President Ilham Aliyev," said Hasanov. "The president gave instructions to the relevant government authorities in connection with the elimination of the fire's consequences, providing a comprehensive aid to the affected."

He added that Azerbaijan's healthcare ministry continues to take actions to provide the emergency medical aid to the victims.

Hasanov said the president also instructed to create a special commission for thoroughly investigating the fires that erupted in two residential buildings in the Khatai and in Binagadi districts of Baku.

"The issuance of certificates of conformity for the production of coating materials, burnt in the fire, their use as cladding in residential homes and compliance with safety norms when using them will be investigated, and the individuals and the entities, which made violations, will be severely punished," said Hasanov.

The death toll in the fire in a multi-storey building in Azadlig Avenue in Baku, has reached 16, the representative of Azerbaijan's healthcare ministry, Safaya Ahmadova, told Trend May 19, adding that 54 people got injured.
