A closed trial on the case of Rauf Mirkadyrov, the former employee of Zerkalo (Mirror) newspaper, was held in the Baku Court of Heinous Crimes on Nov. 18.

The investigation was held by the National Security Ministry.

The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's office said earlier that Mirkadyrov was arrested in Turkey on April 19, 2014. Afterwards, he was deported to Azerbaijan. Mirkadyrov has been suspected of collaborating with the Armenian special services since April 2008, holding several meetings in Armenia, Georgia and Turkey.

He was also spreading the information about the political and military situation, including state secrets, along with photos and schemes for using against Azerbaijan. His actions were directed against the sovereignty, state security, territorial integrity and defensive capacity of Azerbaijan.

A criminal case was filed against Mirkadyrov under Art. 274 (state treason). The Nasimi District Court chose a preventive measure in the form of a three-month arrest. The period of Mirkadyrov's detention was extended several times.
