Anvar Aliyev, one of the oil workers rescued from fire at the platform #10 in the Caspian Sea, has spoken to Trend about what he lived through while trying to flee the burning offshore facility.

"I was in a boat. At the moment when strong waves smashed our boat, all the oil workers inside it fell into the water," said Aliyev, who is now undergoing treatment at the Central Oil Workers Hospital in Baku.

"I grabbed a piece of the boat. The waves carried my friends away in the open sea," he added.

The fire broke out on the offshore platform of SOCAR's Gunashli field Dec. 4, after strong storm damaged an underwater high-pressure gas pipeline.

As many as 33 people were rescued in a large-scale operation, while body of one oil worker was recovered. Some 29 oil workers are listed as missing.
