Extra ships involved in fire-fighting at Azerbaijan’s faulty offshore platform (UDPATE)

Fire-fighting at the faulty offshore platform #10 in SOCAR's Gunashli field is continuing, said Balamirza Alirahimov, chief engineer at Azneft, a production union of Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR.

Addressing a press conference Dec. 7, Alirahimov said that additionally two crane vessels have been involved in the fire-fighting

"As of now, at least one well is in fire, but there is no an exact number [of the burning wells]," he said, adding that helicopters have suspended their searches.

Six dead bodies were found earlier today, at 13:20 (UTC/GMT +4 hours), by the helicopters of Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations.

A fire broke out on the offshore platform #10 of SOCAR's Gunashli field on Dec. 4, as a strong storm damaged an underwater high-pressure gas pipeline.

As many as 33 people were rescued in an ensuing large-scale operation.

Some 23 oil workers are currently listed as missing.
