IS-trained Azerbaijani citizens detained (UPDATE)

Eight citizens of Azerbaijan, who have undergone training within the IS terrorist group (ISIS, ISIL or Daesh) and other terrorist organizations, have been detained, the department of public relations of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan reported Feb. 12.

It was established that they illegally crossed into Syria and Iraq in 2012-2015.

The detained persons have undergone a radical religious and military training within the Daesh, which illegally operates on the territories of these states, as well as other terrorist organizations and other illegal armed groups, gained experience of using different types of firearms. After training they participated in military operations and battles as part of terrorist and other illegal armed groups in Syria and Iraq.

In connection with the above mentioned criminal acts, these persons were brought to investigation as defendants, and a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen by the court in their regard.
