Gymnastics arenas in US not comparable to one in Baku – ambassador

Baku, Azerbaijan, March 6

The US gymnasts said that no gymnastics arena in the US is comparable to the one in Baku, the US ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta told Trend March 6.

He made the remarks following the meeting with members of the US delegation at the FIG World Cup in Trampoline Gymnastics in Baku.

The ambassador said that he is attending the gymnastics event for the first time, adding that for now, he's just studying this sport.

Cekuta noted that he watched competitions in gymnastics on TV many years ago, but it is quite a different feeling to watch the tournament live. The US ambassador said he is already feeling how he is becoming a fan of this sport.

Cekuta pointed out that in general, one of the main features of his work is to discover and do new things that he has never done before.

The US ambassador said he saw both during the First European Games and today how sport is important in Azerbaijan.

Further Cekuta said he was very impressed by how the Azerbaijanis themselves, volunteers, the youth represent their country and how they are proud of that. The ambassador noted that he even talked about this with Azerbaijan's First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

He shared the impressions of the US gymnasts and delegation members at the FIG World Cup in Trampoline Gymnastics in Baku. Cekuta said they told him that they haven't seen such an arena before, adding that it has been built especially for gymnasts.

There are many arenas in the US, there are even small arenas in towns, but none of them are comparable to the one in Baku, Cekuta said.

The US delegation is very satisfied with the organization of the tournament, the ambassador said.
