Azerbaijan's Olympic champion congratulates entire country
Baku, Azerbaijan, August 24
Azerbaijani Taekwondo fighter Radik Isayev, who brought Azerbaijan its only gold medal at the Rio Olympics, congratulated the entire Azerbaijan.
"The entire country needed this medal, and I think we've captured it with common effort," Isayev told reporters in Baku airport upon arrival from Rio.
"I congratulate the entire Azerbaijan with the gold medal," Isayev said.
Isayev, who captured the first-ever gold medal for Azerbaijan in Taekwondo (men's over 80 kg), said he can't talk about his future yet, first there's need to take some time off.
Azerbaijan, represented by 56 athletes at the Olympics, captured 18 medals (1 gold, 7 silver and 10 bronze). The country was among the top 15 countries at the Olympics, which hosted a total of record 206 countries.
Azerbaijani athletes represented the country in 18 sports disciplines.
