Indictment on the case of officials of the abolished Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan was approved by prosecutor general in charge of preliminary investigation and was sent to the Baku Military Court Sept. 5 for its review, according to a message of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
As a result of operational and investigative activities carried out on the basis of numerous appeals from citizens and entrepreneurs, suspicions emerged that former head of the main directorate of the abolished Ministry of National Security, Akif Chovdarov, former head of the first department of the main directorate Salim Mammadov, former head of the second department Akif Aliyev, and former deputy head of the first division of the third department Orkhan Osmanov abused powers granted to them in connection with their duties in 2005-2015.
Having exceeded their authority without grounds established by Azerbaijan’s legislation, and by using technical means intended for secretly obtaining information, they were wiretapping individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activities and illegally carried out search and operational activities in other areas of their duty.
By using personal, family, commercial or professional secret information received in such a way, in order to secure a grip on the property belonging to entrepreneurs, they illegally penetrated into buildings, brought entrepreneurs with them to administrative buildings of the abolished National Security Ministry using violence or threats against them, didn’t allow them to communicate with their families and relatives, restricted their freedom of movement by keeping them in office rooms with use of firearms and objects used as weapons.
