Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s publications presented to Brazilian Senate’s library (PHOTO)

Following the initiatives of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Azerbaijani embassy in Brazil, publications of the Foundation about Azerbaijan were presented to the Brazilian Senate’s library named after academician Luiz Viana Filho in the Brazilian Federal Senate’s building, with the support of Senator Cristovam Buarque, the president of the Brazil-Azerbaijan friendship group at the Brazilian Senate.

Following the initiatives of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Azerbaijani embassy in Brazil, publications of the Foundation about Azerbaijan were presented to the Brazilian Senate’s library named after academician Luiz Viana Filho in the Brazilian Federal Senate’s building, with the support of Senator Cristovam Buarque, the president of the Brazil-Azerbaijan friendship group at the Brazilian Senate.

During a presentation held with participation of Brazilian parliament’s members, ambassadors of foreign countries, and representatives of the local society, information was given about the projects implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Azerbaijan and around the world in such spheres as science, education, culture, sports, social spheres, environment and others.

Speaking about the Foundation’s publications about Azerbaijan that have been presented to the Brazilian Senate’s library, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Brazil Elnur Sultanov said that this event was another contribution to the relations between Azerbaijan and Brazil.

He emphasized historical services of founding father of the modern Azerbaijan, national leader Heydar Aliyev, and noted that Azerbaijan has been developing successfully under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

Sultanov noted that significant projects have been implemented in various spheres, including towards promoting Azerbaijan’s culture around the world, advocating dialogue between cultures and religions, under the leadership of President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva.

Noting education as one of the priority directions in Azerbaijan, the ambassador brought to attention that literacy in Azerbaijan is at a level of 100 percent, and that over 3,000 new schools have been built in recent years.

He thanked Senator Cristovam Buarque for the support provided in the organization of the event and his contribution to widening of bilateral relations.

Touching upon the cooperation with the Brazilian Congress, Sultanov emphasized the significance of the official trip to Azerbaijan of a delegation led by Rodrigo Maia, president of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies, on Oct. 30 – Nov. 2.

Senator Cristovam Buarque, for his part, thanked the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the embassy for the publications about Azerbaijan.

Speaking about Azerbaijan’s ancient history and rich culture, the senator touched upon Azerbaijan’s development in various spheres, including its achievements in the field of education.

Buarque said that he was fascinated by the rich literary creativity and progressive ideas of Azerbaijan’s great poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi.

He also noted that becoming familiarized with the works created by the poet eight centuries ago is of significance.

The senator added that he had translated the book “Nizami Ganjavi. Aphorisms” of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation into the Portuguese language.

Buarque expressed his confidence that the publications presented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation will play a matchless role in conveying information about Azerbaijan to Brazilian readers.

During the event, Ambassador Elnur Sultanov presented to director of Brazilian Senate’s library Helena Celeste Vieira the certificate on granting the Foundation’s publications about Azerbaijan to the library.
