The maximum permitted speed on the Alat-Astara-Iran border highway, put into operation on September 18 with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, has been set - 120 kilometers per hour, the State Motor Road Agency of Azerbaijan said in a statement Sept. 20.

While the total length of the existing Alat-Astara-state border with the Islamic Republic of Iran road was 243 kilometers, the length of the new road is 204 kilometers. The road corresponds to the first technical category.

The width of the roadway of the four-lane road, which is built up to date, in accordance with all requirements, is 15 meters.

Overall, 24 bridges, 66 underground passages, 25 overpasses and traffic interchanges, 4 tunnels have been built along the main road, the concrete drainage ditches have been laid along the 51 km roadside, 5 recreation parks have been laid out, the concrete security fencing has been installed on the 166-km-long median strip and the protective metal fences, drainage pipes, road signs and billboards have been installed on 140-miles-long roadside, the road marking has been applied.
