BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 18. An Armenian saboteur captured in Azerbaijan's Kalbajar has been arrested, Trend reports referring to the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan.
According to the information, the Prosecutor General's Office has initiated a criminal case and is conducting a preliminary investigation in connection with the violation of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan on August 16 on the section of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border passing through the territory of Kalbajar district by a sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Armenian Armed Forces in order to conduct terrorist and sabotage operations.
"Gagik Voskanyan, a member of the Armenian armed formations detained while preventing these illegal actions, was brought to justice as an accused under articles 206.3.2 (smuggling of firearms and ammunition by a group of persons by prior agreement), 214.2.1, 214.2.3 (terrorism committed with the use of firearms by a group of persons by prior agreement), 228.2.1 (illegal acquisition, transportation, storage of firearms by a group of persons by prior agreement), 283.2.1 (commission with the use of force of actions, deliberately aimed at inciting ethnic hatred) and 318.2 (illegal crossing of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan with the use of force by a group of persons by prior agreement) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of arrest against him.
The preliminary investigation is ongoing, detailed information will be provided to the public about its results," the report says.
On August 16, at about 11:00 (GMT+4), members of the Armenian armed formations and a group of persons who colluded with them illegally crossed the state border of Azerbaijan with firearms and ammunition in order to violate public security in Azerbaijan, incite national enmity, harm people's health, as well as property of important importance, opened fire with firearms weapons on the military personnel of the military unit located on the territory of the village of Istisu of the Kalbajar district of Azerbaijan, threatening to use force against them and commit a terrorist act. A member of a sabotage group was detained by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, weapons and ammunition were seized from him.
