Azerbaijan detains group of foreign nationals with expired visas

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 4. As part of the measures taken by the Azerbaijan Republic State Migration Service against illegal migration, 20 foreigners were detained in Baku who were found to have expired visas and who participated in the organization of illegal migration, the agency said, Trend reports.

The organizers of the criminal activity conducted propaganda through a foreign travel company about the transfer of foreigners to the territory of the EU. They took passports from 18 foreigners, allegedly for the preparation of documents, and embezzled their funds. As a result of the measures taken, two foreigners who committed the above-mentioned illegal actions were identified and detained, and materials on the identified cases were sent to the relevant law enforcement agency for legal assessment.

In the course of measures against illegal migration from January through August 2023, a total of 6,306 foreigners and stateless persons were detained. It is established that they live illegally, without appropriate documents, are engaged in activities that do not correspond to the stated purpose of their arrival, or do not live at the registration addresses. During this period, 2,331 foreigners who violated the migration legislation were administratively expelled from the Republic of Azerbaijan, and their entry into the country was restricted for the period established by law, while the rest were legalized for their residence.

In addition, a total of 15,163 administrative decisions were made on the issues of stay, residence, employment of foreigners in the country, and other related issues. Materials on identified cases related to the organization of illegal migration and human trafficking were sent to the relevant law enforcement agency for legal assessment.
