BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. Winning seven medals in Paris is an outstanding achievement, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan Zemfira Meftakhetdinova told Idman.biz praising the Azerbaijani national team's performance at the Olympics, Trend reports.
Meftakhetdinova, who also serves as Vice President of the Azerbaijan Shooting Federation, highlighted that the team’s haul of 2 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals is a remarkable achievement.
"This result demonstrates the hard work of our national team. We are proud of every athlete who competed. Our team was composed of both promising and seasoned athletes, all of whom prepared diligently. However, sports can be unpredictable," she said.
She expressed regret over the injuries that had befallen numerous players in crucial matches.
"Our taekwondo athlete Gashim Magomedov (58 kg) was hindered by injury in the final, which likely cost him the gold. Boxer Alfonso Domínguez (92 kg) also performed exceptionally and deserved gold. Our judo athletes impressed with their resilience, and the gymnasts also delivered strong performances. I was upset that Haji Aliyev (65 kg) and Mariya Stadnik (50 kg) did not secure medals, but it was a proud moment to see our flag raised and our anthem played in France," she added.
To note, the Azerbaijani national team came in 30th place in the grand scheme of things.
