BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 28. According to the results of the country's drought assessment, 22 percent (19,094) of territories were subjected to severe drought in 2023, the head of the Land Use Control Department of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture, Firidun Taghiyev, said at the “Role of Water Management Systems in Climate-Resilient Agriculture” COP29 round table, Trend reports.
He noted that a very severe drought was recorded mainly in Ganja-Dashkasan, Karabakh, Mountainous-Shirvan, Gazakh-Tovuz, and Shirvan-Salyan economic districts.
“According to the results of drought risk level assessment based on optical satellite images, 15 percent of the country's territory has a high level of drought risk,” he added.
