BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 10. The Forum of Azerbaijani Scientists Living Abroad has continued with a panel discussion titled "Building a global academic network: new approaches to the development of local universities and research institutes", Trend reports.
The panel discussion was moderated by Masud Afandiyev, an honored scientist, chair of the World Association of Azerbaijani Scientists based in Germany, professor at the Technical University of Munich, and the first Azerbaijani scientist to receive the Humboldt Prize, a doctor of physical and mathematical sciences.
The discussion included the evolving role of Azerbaijani scientists living abroad in coordinating the activities of universities and research institutes in Azerbaijan with the international academic community, a model for the involvement of the Chinese scientific diaspora, as well as opinions from Azerbaijani scientists abroad on implementing a similar model in Azerbaijan.
Rector of the Baku Higher Oil School, Elmar Gasimov, was the first to speak, addressing the importance of collaboration between Azerbaijani universities and scientists living abroad.
He emphasized Azerbaijan’s efforts to nurture successful youth and provided details on the reforms being carried out at the university, expressing interest in closer cooperation with scientists overseas.
Rector of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction Gulchohra Mammadova highlighted the adaptation of Azerbaijani universities to Western standards and the importance of joint conferences.
She stressed that forming effective partnerships with Western science could significantly boost collective efforts.
Acting Rector of the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry, Vazeh Asgarov, spoke about ongoing projects and collaborations with foreign universities.
Rector of Baku State University, Elchin Babayev, emphasized that the forum serves as a stable and enduring platform for collaboration, describing joint efforts in academic preparation.
Baku Engineering University's rector Yagub Piriyev highlighted the importance of collaboration with international educational institutions while discussing ongoing projects.
Besides, rector of Nakhchivan State University, Elbrus Isayev, stressed the importance of establishing research groups within universities.
He mentioned ongoing collaboration between Nakhchivan State University and the scientists participating in the event.
The panel discussion concluded with an exchange of ideas.
