BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 4. Azerbaijan is developing its third Nationally Determined Contribution document and it will be presented ahead of COP29, Head of Hydrogen and Green Technology Department at the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA) Rana Humbatova said, Trend reports.
She made the remark during panel discussions on “Revolution in our understanding of GHG - role of empirical data, AI, and advanced analytics” within the final day of the international conference within "Climate Action Week" dedicated to COP29 in Baku (BCAW24).
Humbatova emphasized the importance of developing and implementing sustainable energy models to ensure the stability of the energy system amid the growing use of renewable energy sources.
"When we talk about renewable energy, it's crucial to consider its impact on the energy system. Comprehensive modeling is necessary, as we are dealing with multiple variables such as climatic conditions, resource availability, and their influence on the overall energy balance. We need to take all these factors into account to properly integrate renewable sources into the broader system.
The first document aimed for a 35 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, while the second set a goal of 40 percent. Now, we have reassessed our capabilities and are aiming for carbon neutrality (Net Zero). To achieve this, we have studied the experiences of other countries, evaluated their strategies, and determined the investment needed for successful transformations. This document is updated every five years, and we plan to present the new version before the COP29 conference," she noted.
To note, the first and second NDC documents were published in June 2022 and October 2023, respectively.
