BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 4. Building strong connections between the academic community, political circles, and industry is crucial for science to effectively influence societal processes, Director of Strategy at Cambridge Zero at the University of Cambridge Stephen Davison said at a panel discussion on “Role of Global and Regional Collaboration in Overcoming Scientific Challenges” at the final day of the Baku Climate Action Week, Trend reports.

Davison explained that academic collaboration can be divided into two types: "internal" (among academics) and "external" (between the academic community and other sectors).

"Internal collaboration has historically formed the foundation of the university system, reflecting a global brotherhood of knowledge. This format allows for not only knowledge exchange but also resources, facilitating joint scientific publications that enhance scientific influence and attract additional funding. In turn, this opens access to new technologies and strengthens international ties. However, it is essential to build interactions between the academic community and political circles as well as industry so that science can have a real impact on societal processes," he noted.
