BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 17. According to the working group on transport, communications, and high technologies, operating under the Interdepartmental Coordination Headquarters for Centralized Decision-Making in the Liberated Territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan, construction work on the Horadiz-Aghband railway line is 62 percent complete, Trend reports via the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.
Construction is underway for railway tunnels at the 104th and 106th km of the 110.4 km-long railway. The drilling work in the 1071-meter tunnel at the 106th km has wrapped up, pushing the construction progress of the tunnel to a solid 65 percent. Following the drilling phase, works for insulation and cladding will be carried out.
Notably, the Horadiz-Aghband railway line, as part of the Zangezur Corridor, will play a significant role in the Eurasian transport network. This will ensure a direct connection to Nakhchivan and further strengthen Azerbaijan's position on the international transport map.
Construction work on the Horadiz-Aghband railway line, initiated by the head of state in February 2021, is being carried out in three stages. The project includes the construction of nine stations (Horadiz, Yukhari Marjanli, Shukurbeyli, Soltanli, Gumlag, Hakari, Minjivan, Bartaz, and Aghbend), four tunnels, 40 bridges, three galleries (engineering structures designed to protect the railway from rockfall and snowdrifts), and 26 automobile crossings. All in all, more than 500 artificial engineering structures are in the pipeline to be constructed.
