Society Materials 3 September 2005 11:26 (UTC +04:00)

An address to Terri Device, the Parliament Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) Secretary to visit Baku on Sunday, on the arrest of Pirali Orujov, the activist of the New Musavat Party earlier worked in the law-enforcement bodies, is underway, Isakhan Ashurov, the chairman of the Committee on Protect Orujov’s Rights, told Trend.

According to Ashurov, the heads of some Azerbaijani law-defending organizations have demonstrated good will recently. The well-known memorandum between law-defenders and authorities on solution of political prisoners’ problems without discussion in the summer session of the PACE and cessation of political pursuits was signed on 11 July 2005. Next day after signing of the agreement Orujov was arrested. Ashurov noted that the documents to be presented to the PACE Secretary showed that Orujov was arrested for his political views.

He was detained without any strong evidence, but for its political views. He is under illegal arrest for 3 months. “We ask you to discuss the issue on his releasing with Azerbaijani authorities”, the address says.
