Azeri Ombudsman takes part in int'l workshop in Russia

Elmira Suleymanova, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman, took part in an international workshop on Dialogue, tolerance and education: joint activities of the Council of Europe and religious confessions, held in Kazan, Tataristan Republic of Russia, the Ombudsmans Institute told Trend . Attending the event were head of different religious confessions of European countries, prominent religious figures, scientists on religion, representatives of international organizations, Ombudsmen of Russia, Tataristan, the CE commissar on human rights and others.

Addressing to the gathering Suleymanova noted progress existing in the sphere of religion and human freedom, respect to religious beliefs in the post-Soviet area. The anti-Islam propaganda in some European countries seriously damages the religious values, inter-religious relationships, excites discord among the nations with different religious beliefs, she underlined. The Azerbaijani Ombudsman also spoke about work done in Azerbaijan in the direction of protection of religious tolerance, national minorities and human rights.
