There are15,000 hectares of the oil-polluted lands in Absheron. Additionally, there are places where pollution depth reaches several meters, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Huseyn Bagirov told Trend.
5 programs are being prepared to re-cultivate the polluted lands.
A re-cultivation of the polluted lands project has also been included into the packet of documents that the minister submitted to the World Bank. Previously bank has plans to allocate $15-20 m for these purposes. However, now larger resources are definitely needed.
Some of the Bibi-Eybat oil field lands will be included into the project. Land cleaning operations and building of a huge complex are expected to be done in that area.
The ministry in pair with some NGOs is planning to launch a strict monitoring of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline project.
