Salt iodizing level in Azerbaijan totals 80-85%, Trend reports quoting Tarlan Bebirov, head of endocrinology department with Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan.
Bebirov said it is not the upper bound as 90-91% is a desirable level. According to the statistics, in 1985-90 iodine deficiency-related diseases appeared in Azerbaijan. Profuction of iodized salt in Azerbaijan stopped in 1993 and the disease statistics has jumped significantly in 6-12 times.
During these 10 years the government achieved significant results in preventing iodine deficiency, Bebirov said.
