On 20 July the Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry and UNDP signed an project agreement on strengthening of potential for Pure Development Mechanism (PDM). The document was undersigned by the Azerbaijani Ecology Minister Huseyn Bagirov and UNDP Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Marco Borsotti, Trend reports.
The key objective of the project is to assist Azerbaijan in generating potential for participation in the PDM of Kiot Protocol as an appendix to frame UN Convention on climatic changes with respect to reduce leakage of gas forming heat effect.
Azerbaijan signed a Kiot protocol in September 2000 gaining a right for participation in the PDM while the protocol itself enacted into law in 2005. The Norwegian government has allocated $300,000 in financial assistance to Azerbaijan under the project.
Starting from August 2006 the project will be realized in two years jointly with the Azerbaijani Ecology Ministry and UNDP. Under the project it is planned to hold consultations for Azerbaijan on climatic changes policy and design average term strategy of PDM in Azerbaijan.
