Azerbaijan`s TV and Broadcasting Council Suspended Broadcasting of Azerbaijan and Antenn, as Well as International Broadcasting of ANS CM and ANS TV

A regular meeting of the National TV and Brodcasting Council was held on October 13, the National TV and Broadcasting Council told Trend.

During the meeting, an issue conserning the broadcasting and telecasting of TV and Broadcasting channles that belongs to the foreign states which broadcast on the territory of Azerbaijan was held. It was pointed out that different companies such as Radion Liberty/Free Europe, BBC, VOA, as well as broadcats of VOA are broadcasting on the territory of Azerbaijan without corresponding interstate agreements. They have no special official permission (license) for broadcasting at the frequnces that belong to Azerbaijan, however, the licensing of telecasting and broadcasting exist in the country.

All things considered, the National TV and Broadcasting Council has come to conclusion to hold up the broadcasting of the broadcasting channels Azerbaijan and Antenn, as well as the international broadcasting of ANS CM and ANS till January, 2007. Radio Liberty/Free Europe, BBC, as well as VOA were recommended to regulate their broadcasting in accordance with requirements of international norms and the Azerbaijani legislation.

During the meeting of the National TV and Broadcasting Council, an issue on observing the requirements of the Azerbaijani law On TV and Broadcasting in the advertising activity of the TV channels such as Space and Lider was considered. For violating the requirements of the legislation advertising activity, Space and Lider TV channels were fined in accordance with the existing legislation.
