A Candidate for Post of Head of WHO to Arrive in Baku

A candidate for the post of the General Director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tomris Turmen, is expected to visit Baku on 23-24 October, 2006, a source at the Turkish Embassy to Azerbaijan told Trend today.

It was pointed out that Mrs. Turmen is a candidate for the Head of WTO from Turkey, and she is about to hold consultations in Baku on this topic.

At present, a total of 13 candidates from Kuwait, China, Mexico, Iceland, Burma, Syria, France, Mozambique, Japan, Ecuador, Finland, Spain, and Turkey have been nominated for the post of General Director of WTO. A meeting of the Executive Committee will be held in Geneva on November, 6-8, 2006 when the new General Director of the organization will be elected.

Czhon Uk Lee, who was Head of WTO since 2003, died from a stroke at the end of May, 2006.
