Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr. Zarbaliyeva / Twenty women prisoners serving their sentences in Azerbaijan have applied to the President of the country to be pardoned.
Muzaffar Mammadov, the Warden of Prison No. 4, stated that the paperwork of the women who have applied for pardon have been already sent to the President.
Since 1996 to the present time, 72 women prisoners have received Presidential clemency, with 19 of them released in 1996, 14 in 1997, 17in 1998, 2 in 1999, 3 in 2000, 2 in 2003, 5 in 2004, and 8 in 2006.
