Arrested Azerbaijani Journalist Apologizes to Religious People

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / On 25 May a court hearing chaired by Judge Yusif Kerimov took place in Sabail District Court over the criminal cases of Editor-in-Chief of Senet newspaper, Samir Sadagatoglu and journalist Rafig Tagy. Sadagatoglu said that he was not aware of Tagy's article entitled ' Europe and we'. He says that he was in region of Azerbaijan during the publication of the article. He apologized to the religious people. An incident took place between the prosecuted persons and religious people in the court hall. They stated that they will not allow Sadagatoglu and Tagy to stay without punishment. The court hearing will continue on 4 May. Rafiq Tagi and Samir Sedagetoglu have been detained on charges of stirring up religious hatred with an allegedly derogatory statement on the prophet Mohammed in an essay published on 1 November in the newspaper.
