Former Azerbaijani Interior Troops Commander’s Appeal not Approved

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / The Appeals Court of Azerbaijan, a South Caucasus country, reported on 24 May that the appeal made by Fahmin Hajyev, the former commander of the Azerbaijani Interior Troops has not been approved.

During the hearing presided over by Judge Gayil Mammadov, the appeal on restoration of the time for submission of his lawsuit was not allowed.

The hearing which is to be presided over by Judge Alakpar Guliyev will be held on the other appeal of Hajiyev.

The European Court on Human Rights pronounced judgment on the appeal of Hajiyev. In compliance with the determination of the European Court, the Azerbaijani Government, which violated the rights of the former commander, had to pay him € 5,000. The Court's decision was carried out.

In 1994 Hajiyev was sentenced to fifteen years of imprisonment. In 2004 he was pardoned by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

Presently, Hajiyev resides in Turkey.
