Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / The editor-in-chief of the Gundalik Azerbaijan and Realny Azerbaijan newspapers, Eynulla Fatullayev, has rejected his meal, the chairman of the Anti-Torture Committee, Elchin Behbudov, said to Trend on 8 June. Behbudov said that he had met with Fatullayev and examined his cell. "For breakfast he was offered cereal with butter, for dinner pea soup and meat red-beet soup, for supper boiled buckwheat and cabbage salad. The detainee refused to eat that. Fatullayev's refusal and reports that he was not offered any meal are not linked. He is held in a cell intended to two persons. His neighbour was detained for drug-related crime. They always have water in the cell. I examined his bed. Fatullayev rejected his mattress and was provided with new bedding," Behbudov reported.

Behbudov noted that Fatullayev had not any health problem, and was under constant medical control. "According to Fatullayev, the investigator spread data that Fatullayev had addressed Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and asked him to subject Azerbaijan to fire. Fatullayev was interrogated. I investigated the matter at the Ministry of National Security. It was said to me that such question had not been addressed to Fatullayev. He was interrogated in his attorneys' presence. The interrogation was noted down," he said.

Later, Behbudov met with the National Security Minister, Eldar Mahmoudov. Behbudov asked him to take into consideration the young age of Fatullayev and to forgive the fault. During the process at the Court of Appeal, Fatullayev complained that he had not been offered meal for 9 days at the Investigation Cell of the National Security Ministry and had slept on an iron bed without mattress. He applied to the Judge to take necessary measures due to threat to his life.
