Approximately 30,000 Students to Attend Universities in 2007-2008 Education Year

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Agayeva / Maleyka Abbaszade, the Chairman of the State Commission on Students Admission, stated to a news conference on the 19th of June that the State Commission has announced 26,704 vacancies for student admissions in 2007-2008 of the educational year to the state, private, and specialized education schools of Azerbaijan through centralized testing.

The students will be admitted to twenty-one state and sixteen private universities. The state universities ordered 22,884 vacancies and private universities demanded 3,820 vacancies.

Some 10,807 vacancies for state universities are classified as scholarships and 12,077 are classified as paying students. Abbaszade noted that this year the local universities will carry out admissions on new grades, particularly, land cadastre, region management, emergency situations and security, organization of education and management, museum management and military medical business.

This year it is planned to introduce new requirements for the admission of students. Thus, applicants scoring 200 points will be admitted to the competition in the 1st group, though last year they were required to score a minimum of 250 points. At the same time, the State Commission uses the admission of students on the basis of the State Program on Education of Azerbaijani Youth in Foreign Countries in 2007-2015.

In accordance with the program, the State Commission will also carry out a selection of students for an opportunity to study abroad at the expense of the government, as well as different state bodies on necessary grades.
