Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / Ramiz Rzayev, the judge of the Supreme Court, stated on 9 July that life imprisonment may apply to Azerbaijani women.
Rzayev noted that in compliance with the Azerbaijani Constitution, every person is equal before the law, regardless of his or her religion, gender, race and nationality. Experts of the Council of Europe have proposed to inject changes to the Criminal Code to eliminate discrimination.
"We have discussed the proposal and will submit it to the Azerbaijani parliament. In compliance with the Azerbaijani Criminal Code, the most severe form of punishment for women envisages 10 years imprisonment," Rzayev said.
