Azerbaijani Youth Alarmed about Social Problems – Poll

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / Rufat Garagozlu, the head of the social service of ADAM, has stated that the results of the social poll 'on the social and soul state of Azerbaijani youth', that surved 1,000 Azerbaijani youth, reveled that 66% of respondents are satisfied with their private life. The poll was held within the framework of the project of FAR CENTRE.

While 16% are ready to leave the country forever, 34% wish to do so temporarily. Many are alarmed over the most pressing social issues, with 48% alarmed over the Armenia-Azerbaijan Conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, 41% over corruption, 26% over unemployment, 22% over education, 19% over poverty and 18% over problems in democracy and human rights.

Only 10% of polled youths believe that 62% of oil profits will be spent on the people and 25% consider Azerbaijan a country in which people enjoy freedom.

The issue on moral points of view revealed certain progress in private freedom and social responsibility. Only 12% of respondents considered dissipation a sin, homosexuality - 13%, extramarital sex - 14%, prostitution - 16%. Furthermore, 47% of residents consider telling lies to be a sin, theft - 42 %, violence - 34%, and bribery - 25%.
