Arrested Journalists of Azerbaijani Mukhalifat Newspaper Refuse to Take Part in Court Trial

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / The preliminary hearing was held in Baku Appeal Court under the chairmanship of the judge, Mirpasha Huseyinov, on appeal of the editor-in-chief, Rovshan Kabirli, and the contributor of the Mukhalifat newspaper, Yashar Agazadeh, on 13 August.

Rashid Hajili, the lawyer of the journalists, has stated that it was decided to hold the next hearing on 16 August. Hajili said that the defendants refused to participate at the hearing.

The journalists are accused due to the appeal of MP Jalal Aliyev, in compliance with Article 147.2 (slander to commit grave crime) of the Criminal Code, and was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment by the decision of the Yasamal District Court.
