Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr K. Zarbaliyeva / The jailed employee of Azerbaijani Bizim Yol (Our Way) newspaper, Mushvig Huseynov, is complaining of health problems. The Chairman of Azerbaijani Anti-Torture Committee, Elchin Behbudov, reported to Trend on 14 August that he had met Huseynov in the Investigation Cell 1. The journalist not considering himself guilty is complaining of severe pains in his liver. The inmate is satisfied with the living conditions and treatment.
Huseynov was arrested in the 'Gurd Gapisi' restaurant, situated in Baku city's Yasamal district on 24 July at 15:00 for taking $35,000 in bribes from an employee of the Labour and Social Protection Ministry. A criminal case has been filed regarding the issue. Huseynov is charged in accordance with Article 311.1 (bribery) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
The investigation was held by Corruption Enforcement Department of Azerbaijani Republican Prosecutor's Office. Yasamal District Court sentenced Huseynov to three months of imprisonment and the Baku Court of Appeal upheld the decision. The journalist is being held in Bail Investigation Cell 1.
