Construction of Istanbul’s third airport completed by 55%

The construction of the third airport has been completed by 55 percent in Istanbul, Turkish YeniSafak newspaper reported.

The construction of the third airport has been completed by 55 percent in Istanbul, Turkish YeniSafak newspaper reported.

Thus, 27,000 workers are involved in the construction of the airport.

"AİRPORT CİTY", which will include a network of shops, logistics and exhibition centers, will be also built at the airport.

According to the newspaper, the construction of the third airport in Istanbul, which began in 2013, was accelerated.

The third airport will be commissioned in Istanbul in early 2018.

Limak-Kolin-Cengiz-MaPa-Kalyon consortium of companies won the tender for construction of the airport.

Earlier, the air transport department of Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend that the construction of this airport will cost 10 billion Turkish liras.

The third airport is being built near the Lake Terkos in northern Istanbul.

Initially, the airport will serve 90 million passengers per year and further, this figure will increase to 150 million.

This airport is expected to be one of the largest ones in the world and will be named after the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Turkish banks issued a loan for the construction of this airport in October 2016.

Turkey's Ziraat Bankasi allocated 1.54 billion euros, while Halkbank and Vakifbank - 1 billion euros, Denizbank - 500 million euros, Garanti and Finansbank - 300 million euros, according to the report.

The loan has been allocated for 16 years with grace period of four years.
