Experts talk obstacles, problems of Azerbaijan's e-trade

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21

By Sadraddin Agjayev - Trend:

The electronic trade (e-trade) in Azerbaijan is facing technical and legislative problems, Tariyel Aghazade, Program Manager of the SUP.VC center, told Trend.

“Technical problems are not as critical as problems related to legislation. We, being specialists in e-trade, can solve any problems that arise along the way of its development. Problems are observed in implementation of innovative solutions that are not yet legalized,” said Aghazade.

“Due to the policy of e-trade, start-up projects and financial technologies of Azerbaijan, as well as the provisions of tax legislation, some of our decisions have not been realized. In this direction, we are currently looking for alternative ways to legalize these ideas,” said Orkhan Ahmadli, expert in the e-trade industry.

"Not all of small-time entrepreneurs in Azerbaijan have an online platform, in particular online stores. Such entrepreneurs do business via social networks - Facebook, Whatsapp and others. This shows that not every one of them are interested in having an online platform and receiving non-cash payments," Ahmadli said.

“The development of local e-trade is hindered by the buyer's lack of confidence in the seller. Many prefer to pay in cash when buying the goods. For example, if some taxi drivers want to pay for travel by non-cash funds, generally refuse to travel,” the expert added.
