BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 28

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

The coronavirus pandemic has accelerated the digital transformation of the Azerbaijani economy, Acting Director of the Institute for Scientific Research on Economic Reforms under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy Arzu Huseynova told Trend on Dec. 28.

"This includes not only online sales but also the automation of all forms of activity in Azerbaijan," Huseynova said. "Taking into account the development of the internet and an increase in the volume of information, data mining is required in decision-making."

The acting director stressed that digitalization concerns both the field of education, information and communication technologies, and other spheres.

"The action plan approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on April 4, 2020, for the implementation of paragraph 10.2 of the decree of the Azerbaijani president dated March 19, 2020, covers three spheres, namely, support for economic growth and entrepreneurship, employment and social security, macroeconomics, and financial stability," Huseynova said.

Touching upon the topic of Azerbaijan's economic growth during the pandemic, the acting director stressed that the main factor of growth is the development of the non-oil sector.

"The factors that will stimulate economic growth in the post-pandemic period are the development of the non-oil sector, maintaining of macroeconomic stability, supporting of entrepreneurship and attracting of foreign investments to the country," Huseynova said.

"After the reforms carried out in the country, the export of agricultural products also began to grow," Huseynova said. "On the other hand, the government gives priority to the mechanisms to support the private sector."
