Unified transit permit to expand TRACECA cargo turnover under consideration

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 11

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

The issue of signing a new agreement to obtain a single transit permit TRACECA is on the agenda, Rufat Bayramov, Permanent Representative (National Secretary) of the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA told Trend on Feb. 10.

"A special working group on this issue has been created within TRACECA," Bayramov added. "Criteria for the possible application of a single transit agreement among the TRACECA countries are being discussed within the project."

Bayramov stressed that in fact, this document will save time and allow avoiding certain costs in the process of transporting goods.

"At the moment, there are certain limits on the carriage of goods, which are regulated by bilateral agreements on their transit," the permanent representative added. "We are now trying to promote this project to get rid of unnecessary documentation among the countries, which will ultimately speed up the time for goods to be transported through the borders among TRACECA countries."

"The implementation of this project will accelerate the digitalization of the information exchange process among the countries," Bayramov added.

"This project envisages the creation of a special ecosystem (platform), within which customs services, freight carriers and other contractors will be able to exchange reliable information on goods in transit through the territories of the TRACECA countries," the permanent representative said.

"Moreover, saving travel time will increase the attractiveness of the route and give opportunities for expanding the geography of TRACECA," Bayramov added.

"Today there is competition among land routes in global supply chains," Bayramov added. "Accordingly, the presence of additional advantages for a particular corridor increases its attractiveness."

"The implementation of all these measures will allow expanding TRACECA cargo turnover in the direction of China - Europe, Southern Europe - Central Asia and in a number of other directions," the permanent representative said.
