The European Union (EU) is ready to sign a new comprehensive agreement with Azerbaijan, Head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan Kestutis Jankauskas said in an interview with Trend.
“The negotiations between Azerbaijan and the EU on this agreement started in 2017,” Jankauskas said.
"The signing of a comprehensive agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan will contribute to the further growth of trade turnover,” the head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan said. “The text of the document is almost ready. The issues related to trade remain open because Azerbaijan is not yet a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO).”
“I cannot disclose a specific date for signing but the agreement would help improve our relations and the economy,” Jankauskas said.
“The EU supports Azerbaijan's accession to the WTO, as well as the economic diversification that has been encouraged over the years,” the head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan added. “Moreover, the abolition of visas for citizens of the EU member-states will contribute to the growth of tourist flow to Azerbaijan.”
