Azerbaijan's government speeds up restoration, reintegration of Karabakh, East Zangezur

Azerbaijan’s government has accelerated the restoration and reintegration of Karabakh and East Zangezur [regions], Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communications (CAERC), Doctor of Economics, Professor Vusal Gasimli told Trend on August 5.

According to Gasimli, such acceleration is facilitated by the mobilization of all resources of the state and attraction of foreign investors.

"The government of Azerbaijan allocated 2.2 billion manat ($1.3 billion) from the state budget, and the process of attracting foreign investment continues," he added.

The head of CAERC noted that the receipt of minefield maps of some Azerbaijani districts [liberated from Armenian occupation in the 2020 Karabakh war] accelerated the process of restoration, in connection with which the pace of work on clearing the territory from the mines and the process of urban development.

"Smart cities and villages are being built, agribusiness, mining and construction sectors, transport and logistics services, as well as a number of other spheres of activity are being restored," Gasimli said.

He also stressed that Shusha city is becoming the center of the creative industry of Azerbaijan, and Kalbajar - the center of mountain tourism and wellness. The tourist potential is being created in Sugovushan settlement.

"In terms of logistics, the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions have great political, economic and historical significance," he further said.

The executive director of the center also added that the project ‘State programs of restoration and sustainable development of Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation for 2021-2025’ has already been prepared.
