Azerbaijan's Central Bank unveils data on currency exchange operations for Jan. through Sept. 2021

Currency exchange operations in Azerbaijan were carried out mainly in US dollars, British pounds, euros and Russian rubles from January through September 2021, Trend reports via Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA, the purchase of US dollars by local banks increased over the year by 1.77 percent - from $118.46 million to more than $120 million, while sales decreased by 44.09 percent - from $170.6 million to $95 million.

"During the reporting period, banks also acquired about 665,600 British pounds against 381,000 pounds in the same period last year (an increase of 42.76 percent), and sold - 1.7 million pounds against 1.3 million pounds a year earlier (an increase by 22.95 percent) ", CBA reports.

Azerbaijani banks purchased in eight months over six million euros (an increase of 37.14 percent on an annualized basis), and sold about 12 million euros (a decrease of 55.94 percent).

At the same time, over the year, banks increased the purchase of Russian rubles by 27.58 percent - from 1.3 billion to over 1.8 billion rubles. Sales amounted to 222.6 million Russian rubles against 190.1 million a year earlier (an increase of 14.59 percent).
