Kazakhstan forecasts growth in energy consumption

Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Bolat Akchulakov spoke about the energy balance of the country, developed by the Government, during a briefing at the Central Communications Service, Trend reports via the ministry.

"During the development of the energy balance, an analysis of the current state of the energy industry of Kazakhstan by sectors was made," Akchulakov said. "In accordance with the simulation of production-consumption balances, taking into account the prospects for the development of generation in the context of sources, as well as the introduction of new consumers, the necessary amount of electric power required for commissioning was calculated."

According to him, subject to the energy balance, electricity consumption will grow to 152.9 billion kWh by 2035, and the average annual growth in electricity consumption from 2021 through 2035 will increase by 2.7 percent.

"To cover the needs of the economy and the population, 17.5 GW of the new generation will be required by 2035," the minister noted.

"The implementation of all the planned projects will allow covering the deficit of both basic and regulating capacity, ensuring the independence of the energy system from the regulation of the energy systems of neighboring states," concluded Akchulakov.
