BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 4. A platform supply vessel belonging to Turkmenistan is being assembled for the first time at the Baku Shipyard, Azad Aliyev, head of the enterprise’s ship repair department, told Trend.

According to Aliyev, it’s planned to complete the assembly of the vessel before the end of the first half of 2022.

"This vessel was purchased by the Turkmen side in the US in parts. Its assembly at the Baku Shipyard testifies to the modern and innovative capabilities (equipment, installations, professional specialists and engineers) of our company. The assembly project was awarded to us on the basis of a tender won by us," he said.

The shipyard’s representative noted that the mentioned vessel is also capable of "lifting" on special so-called "legs" to the level of the platform and staying in this position for a long period.

"Currently, one of the most difficult processes of assembling this ship - installation of these "legs" is underway. Their height is 70 meters (50 + 20 meters). At the moment, two "legs" have already been installed, and the third one is being installed," he explained. "The advantage of this vessel is also its resistance to storm conditions because during a storm it's not on the water."

According to him, along with the basic capabilities, on the basis of an agreement, the Baku Shipyard will also modify the ship.

"It’s planned to increase the technical capabilities and capacity of the vessel, additionally install various systems," added Aliyev.

The Baku Shipyard is one of the modern shipbuilding enterprises in the Caspian region.
