BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 30. Annual global investments in nuclear power are expected to boost over $100 billion in the first half of the 2030s, Trend reports via the International Energy Agency (IEA).

According to the IEA’s Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario (NZE), the revival of nuclear energy entails a significant increase in investments in the upcoming decades for the construction of new nuclear reactors and the extension of the life of the existing ones.

As the research noted, the expected volume of investments is over three times the average of $30 billion in the 2010s.

However, the investments are projected to fall gradually to around $70 billion in the second half of the 2040s.

“The investment in nuclear power from 2021 through 2050 accounts for less than 10 percent of the total for low emissions sources of electricity. By context, annual investment in renewables in this scenario rises from $325 billion on average in 2016-2020 to $1.3 trillion in 2031-2035,” the IEA said.

Meanwhile, in line with the NZE, global nuclear power capacity is expected to double by 2050 - from 413 GW in early 2022 to 812 GW.
