BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 19. Poland and Azerbaijan will discuss increasing railway cooperation during the upcoming Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, Ambassador of Poland to Azerbaijan Rafal Poborski told Trend.

“If you look at the map, both Poland and Azerbaijan have a very unique geographic location. We are right in the middle of our regions, and the main transport corridors pass through our territories. There are some projects to link Poland and Azerbaijan in the major transport corridors from Asia to Europe,” he said.

According to the ambassador, the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), so-called the Middle Corridor, is huge, and Poland wishes to develop cooperation with Azerbaijan in this regard as well.

He noted that transport and communication are among the main areas of cooperation between the two countries, which was also reflected in the declaration signed between Azerbaijan and Poland back in 2017.

“The memorandum of understanding between the port of Gdańsk in Poland and the International Sea Port in Alat is one of the significant documents signed between our countries. But to link those ports successful railway system is needed. We hope to discuss this issue during the commission meeting,” Poborski added.
