BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 7. Important statements regarding the export potential of Azerbaijan’s electricity were made over the past week, Trend reports.
According to Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijan plans to export green energy to Europe through one of the promising routes, which is the Azerbaijan-Turkey-Europe energy corridor, which will pass through Nakhchivan.
As the minister said, for the implementation of this project, Azerbaijan is working on the creation of the “Jabrayil” energy hub. This facility will contribute to increasing the country’s export potential. At the same time, the construction of the 330-kilowatt substation will be of strategic importance.
In this context, Colin Allan, bp’s Vice-President for Finance in Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkiye, also commented on the construction of the solar power station in Jabrayil district, which will create the basis for future investments in this field.
“bp has been working on reducing carbon emissions, and we have already cut by half a million tons through various methods since 2016. These are many small projects. The project of a solar power plant on liberated land in terms of its potential to transport electricity to our facilities on the Absheron is a huge step in terms of investments,” he said.
President of Azerenergy JSC Baba Rzayev also spoke about the construction of other key energy facilities on the liberated lands. He said that the construction of small hydropower plants in 5 locations and substations in 3 locations on the liberated lands is ongoing and will be completed in the coming months.
Also, according to him, a new electricity generation source will be created at the “Azerbaijan” thermal power plant for a more efficient electricity supply in the country. As a result of the connection of the steam turbines of the 7th and 8th power plants to the 1280-megawatt power plant, the total capacity will reach 1,880 megawatts, which will save 800 million cubic meters of gas per year.
At the same time, Azerbaijan continues to supply European countries with its gas. Last week, the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) said that gas prices in Bulgaria declined by 47 percent in November as the country began importing gas from Azerbaijan via the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB).
In turn, as bp said, gas production at the “Shah Deniz” field increased by 12.5 percent over the first nine months of 2022 - from 16 to 18 billion standard cubic meters. At the same time, in the first three quarters of 2022 on average, about 67 million standard cubic meters (about 2.362 million standard cubic feet) of “Shah Deniz” gas were exported from the Sangachal terminal, which is 15.5 percent more than in the same period of 2021.
At the same time, the average daily capacity of the South Caucasus Gas Pipeline (SCP), through which gas from the Sangachal terminal is exported, increased by 19.8 percent - to 56.1 million cubic meters of gas per day.
According to bp’s report, the total production in the “Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli” (ACG) field over the first three quarters of 2022 amounted to 418,000 barrels per day, which is 9.33 percent less year-on-year. At the same time, more than 171 million barrels of oil and condensate were exported from the Sangachal terminal during the first three quarters of 2022 - a slight decrease, compared to the same period in 2021.
