BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 5. PwC closely cooperates with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transport in the field of transport sector, Managing Partner of PwC in Azerbaijan Movlan Pashayev sad in an interview with Trend.

He pointed out that Azerbaijan is a huge transport hub between East and West, and in order to strengthen this role, it is necessary to utilize alternative and more safe and efficient routes.

"The best option in Eurasia is the route passing through Azerbaijan, which is located at the junction of the North-South and East-West corridors. Azerbaijan’s transport infrastructure was unable to handle such a huge volume of cargo before. Large-scale work is already underway, both on modernization and expansion of the transportation network," he said.

The cargo handling capacity of the Baku seaport, which is 15 million tons per year, will be expanded to 25 million tons. Azerbaijan Railways CJSC has reached a number of agreements to purchase additional railroad cars and platforms. Other relevant structures also work on the expansion of transport infrastructure.

In terms of ensuring Europe's energy security, Pashayev stated that Azerbaijan can currently meet about 20 percent of the EU demand

"With the implementation of the oil and gas contracts, our role in ensuring the energy security of Europe will only increase," he added.

According to the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, the country exported 11.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe in 2022. In general, the country exported 22.3 billion cubic meters of gas last year.
