BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 13. The trade turnover between Belgium and Azerbaijan in the recent years has been around 50 million euros, Nicolas Fierens Gevaert, Spokesperson for Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Trend.

As the spokesperson noted, the complete statistical data for 2022 is not available yet, however, a significant growth in trade flows over the past year can already be noted (72 million euros from January through November).

"In 2021, the main export products from Belgium to Azerbaijan were chemical products (54.2 percent), mineral products (10.3 percent), machinery and capital goods (8.5 percent)," he said.

Meanwhile, the main export commodities from Azerbaijan to Belgium in the reporting period included mineral products (62.8 percent), chemical products (22.5 percent) and precious metals (4.4 percent).

"Belgium is a federal state and its regions are key players in Belgium's foreign trade. For example, the Flemish trade agency "Flanders Investment and Trade" as well as the Walloon trade agency "Wallonia Export & Investment Agency" organized a trade mission to Azerbaijan in November last year, in order to promote bilateral foreign trade. Nevertheless, the decision to explore the opportunities on the different foreign markets belongs in the first place to the companies themselves," he noted.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover in 2022 totaled $52.6 billion, up by $18.7 billion (55.36 percent) on annual basis.
